i am also known as Karl , i have been modded Spring RTS for a while and maked some Models and 192 of CEG'S ( Custom Explosion Generator it makes all the shiny Particles Smokes , Fire , you name it)
i could help you with Models 3DO (Haha there gives a dead firma called 3DO too! how ironic..).. UVMapping is too much for me..
and maybe with Particles too..

if you're willing to help, then there is room for you in the team .
Since you are interested in modeling, you should have a look at 3DMEditor2, it doesn't support saving in 3DO format yet (and is UV mapping based), but already provides some interesting stuffs like scripting/animation tools and some texturing/modeling stuffs, the most interesting being the ambient occlusion tool.
