Supcom 2 Big improve

Post by xpoy » Tue Jul 21, 2009 1:35 pm

we have a brand-new pathfinding system with a bunch of incredibly sophisticated galns
supcom2 employs an innvative new approach called Flow Field that treats the hundreds of units that roam the maps at oce like particles in a fluid simulation. In demonstrations, units appeared to adjust their heading to aviod calliding with obstackes, rather than bumbling into them and then correcting. We can do an order of magnitude more units, or we can run the same number of units at a order of magnitude less performance cost. So either way it means massive, massive battles on lower-end systems.
Big units can now easily push their allies aside to clear a path. Taylor demonstrated by driving a Fatboy though a swarm of 200 small tanks without slowing down, carving a path like a buildozer through a crowed

can we expect factories to move aside too to let big units pass ? :P

Anyway the fluid simulation idea sounds great :) but what if there is a bunch of units in a small hole and you want to get your monster in ? It could be funny too if monster units could crash smaller units by walking on it :)

Definately yes, but we should start with making them move as they should, before crushing them under the big ones :P
