Where i must place .hpi ?

Post by SCHIZO » Sun Jul 20, 2008 11:54 am

Game have very stupid manual. Nowhere don't sayed where i must place *.hpi and other recourse files in linux.

It is not so obvious as you think.

I have all CDs but hpiview install /path/to/blablabla don't works.

Code: Select all

hpiview install /media/TACD1
please mount/insert your TA cdrom now (TA CD 1)Installation failed:
Unable to find TA's cd path!!

please use this syntax:
    hpiview install path_to_TA_cd
CD mounted... WTF?

hm, which version of TA3D do you use ?

which package do you use ? (source, binary 32, binary 64)

I think none of released packages contains the installer fix/improvement that makes it retry to find the CD during 5 sec, if it's not mounted when it's looking for it this will fail.

This is how to do:
1) mount the CD
2) start ./hpiview install /media/cdrom (replace /media/cdrom with the path where your CD is mounted)
3) follow instructions (just change CD as asked on screen)

if it still fails, you can install resources manually. Just copy totala2.hpi from the first CD, and extract totala1.hpi from totala3.hpi. you can do that with any HPI viewer or with hpiview:
copy totala3.hpi in TA3D's dir and type:
./hpiview extract install\\totala1.hpi
Game have very stupid manual.
if you want you can help us improving it. Since we are mostly developers and testers are involved in the project for quite some time now we don't see how difficult it can be for new users

ha, ok I see

SuSE packages try to install ta3d the way you would do with other softwares ... but 0.4.2 is clearly not ready for that so they use a hack : they create a ta3d directory in your $HOME folder with lots of links to the original files/dirs in /usr/...

so you should run commands from $HOME/ta3d/

I tested those packages on OpenSUSE 11 but I got an error with Allegro ... it wasn't built with the exact same version that I had installed (same version number but they removed/changed a symbol  so it didn't want to work).

We didn't create SuSE packages here, so I cannot provide more help on them, but we know better how our home made packages work :P

It will be easier in the next stable release (0.5.1 the current 0.5.0 is the devel version). There will have a dedicated resource folder like other unix apps.
From the roadmap, a deb/rpm package will be provided.

campaigns are in totala4.hpi (CD2), but totala1.hpi cannot be copied easily from all CDs of TA. On my CD I have to extract it from totala3.hpi ...
