TA3D 0.4.2. Windows (Doors Package) hanging...
TA3D 0.4.2. Windows (Doors Package) hanging...
Not sure if this is the right forum, but here is my problem: Installed Doors package for Windows, seemed all perfectly fine. Copied all the necessary original files into the run directory (the exe issued an error message without this, as expected).
Now, starting the executable, it hangs, with full CPU usage. What's wrong here? It can't take more than 5 minutes to load, can it?

It is common bug. Every time i run new release on windows - the first run just don`t create TA3D OpenGL window, just the console one.
I suppose it is somehow connected to the first initialising procedure, since after this first run all others works without this bug. I`ve mentioned about this bug for quite a long time, bu we couldn`t catch it yet

First be sure that you copy your newly compiled ta3d-bin.exe to the ta3d-win32 directory for play test. I have forgotten this myself a time or two and really felt stupid when I caught myself.
Also be sure you use the ta3d.bat file not direct on the exe.
I have also done that more than few times and felt really stupid.
Also hoping to finish testing new directory stuff later tonight and be able to upload the new file tomorrow. 0.4.3 release will contain at least one new map for testing.
That first launch problem is mostly avoided by using the batch file.
It doesn't always happen to me.
beware 0.4.3 only adds networking code, and win32 networking code isn't working yet !! I managed to join a game hosted on a Linux server and chat but I was running it through Wine not windows, when I tested it on windows I got nothing
Not in a hurry,
I know it will be some time before 0.4.3 is ready.
That gives me time to make some maps, been a while.
Looking forward to 0.4.3 and Doors next package. I have played skirmish and 0.4.2. binaries crashed during battle (I used the executable that was inside Doors package).
Always at least try to compile your own.
The binary in my package is left over from zuzuf's not mine.
There are differences between the cross compile from Linux cygwin and the native compile from mingw.
I have MUCH better luck with the native compiles.
Be sure to copy the binary from the compile directory to the play directory.
ta3d -> ta3d-win32 in order to play.

Well, we'll still working on networking code. Basically we're about to change the low level network layer because it doesn't seem to work on win32, we're still developing the high level layer (chat, file transfer, game hosting and joining work on Linux, not on win32 because of low level layer).
I busy this week (exams, ...) so currently I don't have much time to work on TA3D (but holidays are coming )

Thanks, it's finished now.
But this wasn't too hard, there was a programming exam yesterday morning
some kind of robotics exam yesterday in the evening (we've managed to make a six legged robot walking smoothly )
and this morning it was more like literature (I hate that kind of exam!!)
