the camera movement isn't that very well sometimes it doesn't rotate right,
and sometimes when the camera gets moved a lot the camera can hardly be rotated ,
also IIRC the camera gets slower and slower when it gets moved deeply.
Also when i load up a model in this case *.3ds one the model gets "Spawned" where the camera is,
it should be "Spawned" on the default one center 0,0,0 and not where the camera is.

3DMeditor camera is always targeted in 0.0.0. point. Any object you`ll load will be drawn around this start point.
You should have no problems with zooming, since almost all TA3D models have similar size and there is no need in zooming in/out too much.
Yeah, rotation does looks a little strange sometimes, but you`ll get used to it thery fast - just set mouse pointer near the 0.0.0. point and you`ll be able to rotate object without any problems.
