Map & UI rotation - Ala Simcity but not just quadrants

Post by Doors » Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:39 pm

I personally would like to see the Map & UI rotatable ala Simcity.
I don't mean just thew four quadrants, I mean freely rotatable.

What I would like is to rotate it based on where ever it is you are looking at.
Interesting for getting a better look around tall features that sometimes hide units in there shadow or at least obscure them and addresses the only major short coming at least in my own opinion that Supcom has.

I have other thoughts but those wait until I can get it to compile properly.

Well, I don`t sure that I`ve understand you clearly, but TA3D already has fully rotateable map. What exactly do you mean?

Well I feel kind of silly.
Go free camera and you can spin around with the middle mouse button.
Now if I could just get it to stay that way it would be neat.

Now that I finally got this thing to compile I can really begin to play.
Any clue on where to look for code that controls the view port?

the CAMERA class is in ta3dbase.h, and camera management code is in the play(...) function in ta3d.cpp, but the code is huge ... you'll find a code that initialize the CAMERA object, and further in the control code (there are a few comments here telling it's control code) you'll find the code that actually manage the camera.

Sounds like what you want is WarCraft III's rotate ability, but with infinite degrees of freedom and after rotating, the screen and minimap stay rotated...

Exactly,

Now if I can just figure out how to do that.

The stay as selected that is, the gods eye view it does.
That and make the fog go away so things in the distance just get smaller.
