Lushers! (New map)

Post by MattyWS » Wed Feb 09, 2011 4:08 pm

As I did with the map, shore to shore 2; made in the same way aswell, I will be making this map as a revision to lush, to show off the lush features I make. :) It seems the only thing that keeps me going is to have one of my own home-made maps using ugly ota features, makes me want to make new ones to make the maps look good. :P A will try make a new name for it.

10x10, muddy waters, rivers and small islands filled with brush, this map is wild!

I make the tree model from a tree generator found here; http://www.frecle.net/forum/viewtopic.p ... c&start=30

but then I export it from there, do some modelling tweaks in wings3d (easier than max for this). things like putting the base of the trunk slightly underground so it doesn't look floating on slopes, I also move the leaves around a bit then export it to 3ds in the form of 2 objects (leaves, trunk) and import the 3ds to 3dmeditor, here, by now the UV mapping is done by the tree gen, so no worries to that, then I use Photoshop to created the branches of leaves and save the images to .png, for transparency on the leaves. in 3dmeditor, I select the leaves part of the model and open image of the leaves, flip it (its normally upside down lol) and check the boxes blend and textured. this makes the leaves show up normally rather than like the single quad they are,

minimap looks cartoonish
trees look epic
water looks epic

i would give it a 7 on a scale of 1-10
but i would cheat and give it an A- instead of a C+

Well, you need a minimap with not to much details : It's for see what is where, essentially.
