3DMEditor2 alpha 8 for windows

Post by zuzuf » Mon Mar 22, 2010 5:27 pm

Since I recently made several improvements to 3DMEditor2 I thought it was necessary to release a new package.

Here is the list of changes since last alpha :
  • ambient occlusion GPU code now takes overlapping parts into account (no more overbright model parts)
  • merging/splitting models has been fixed (and it takes care of UV coordinates now)
  • S3O import fixed
  • added support for S3O and OBJ export (3DS option does nothing yet)
  • mirroring/scaling now applies on sub-objects too
  • several minor fixes
As usual you'll find it there:
ftp://downloads.ta3d.org/binaries/windows/dev/0.6/

NB: I used 3DMEditor2 to assemble/fix several HD models in the free data set so this is really working and usable software (auto-disassembling single-object models is very useful for animation :) ) even though it's still far from being finished and several features are still work in progress/not implemented/buggy.

I'm having an issue, when I try to run the program it just doesn't show up at all, it's just not there. Is there any specific place I need to put the files?

Well how did you go about installing it? I mean did you put the files somewhere or can you just run it out of any folder? :S The faster I get this working, the faster I can replace tree's

I try from anywhere with all permissions allowed, running as admin and all it does is show up in processes in the task manager for a moment then vanishes again, even tried running it in program files (x86). My system specs are below:

4GB RAM
AMD Phenom II x4 955 processor (quad core 3.2ghz)
Geforce GTS250 (1024mb ddr2)
Windows 7 64-bit
22' monitor (not that it makes a difference)

Maybe you should try to run it on the similar software and OS as yours and try to find the difference?

I can`t say if there is a debug log.

I got the stupid program to show up but I had to set it to display in 256 colours and even then it crashes when I try to load a model. Any idea?

I thought my card was up to date but I'll update it and try again.

Nope, nothing to do with drivers and my graphics card is a very up to date one at that.

Hm, this build may be a bit old and links against a version of Qt which might have problems with windows 7. I am going to rebuild 3DMEditor with last version of Qt (4.7) it'll probably run better.

I've just uploaded an alpha8b package which is almost identical except it uses Qt 4.7 instead of Qt 4.6 and contains a small bug fix which wasn't present in alpha8, oh and I tested it in a win7 VM without tweaking weird run settings.

Nope. This tool is mainly for 3D objects format conversion, texturing, shaders creation and default animation.
There are no 3D modelling abilities other than several 3D primitives.

Try not to add new things just yet, work on what needs to be done. :) And of course, it's not a job so take your time.
