how about using buildbot to generate automated svn installs of ta3d for people to test?

I am not sure snapshots is really a need for TA3D users. The changes on the trunk are only consistent on a range of revisions. Actually the current version in development is more a maintenance release than something else.
In the case users would be interrested in this feature, this would require a version for each platform, which I don't think we are able to provide for the moment.
By the way, compiling does not mean working, like it is the case in the last revision (r921)

indeed, even the few tests I've run weren't enough ...
