Updated. Bug 8 is there. There is no way how I tried to add the reflection to the metal deposits - it just don`t work.

5 was a problem in the free data set, you should update it (remove it before copying the new files, I replaced the OBJ model for the ARMMEX with a 3DM one but the OBJ is still used by the engine if you don't remove it). TA and TA3D have 3 tiers, if you mean the technological levels. Addition levels can be added through modding. Shild support is planned, but not the way you discribe, it`s just energy defence shield, that protect the building itself and nearby units.

How about we use something like wings3d for heightmaps, the actual wings files, and in the map editor we use high-quality textures to texture the faces? This might create problems though; i must think it over some more i guess. will try to edit post if necessary. Wings 3D is not suited for this kin...

There is no restrictions with the color pallete - so you can make custom hi-color explosions or using sprites or using 3D models ) Yes, it would be very nice, since explosions do may look better. (I thought some time ago to use explosions from RTS Dominion- Strorm over the rift or something like that)

If you encode a 24bits height into a RGB color with 8bits per channel, it won't be easy to edit with external tools. Yes, you are right... I thought the idea was a little different:
- tga image is used for height map - so it don`t have to be big.
The terrain textures are should be generated automatically within map editor (for example you can chose - grass, snow, rock) and so on....

Nope. This tool is mainly for 3D objects format conversion, texturing, shaders creation and default animation.
There are no 3D modelling abilities other than several 3D primitives.
